Welcome to the Presbyterian Church (USA)!

The Presbyterian Church (USA) is a Protestant denomination within the reformed church tradition, founded in the United States in the 1700’s, based on the thinking of John Knox in Scotland and John Calvin in Switzerland.

 Presbyterians believe:

--God is the sovereign creator of the universe

--Jesus Christ is God’s incarnation on earth and savior of all

--the Holy Spirit is God’s permanent presence in the world

--the Church is Christ’s body on earth, the fellowship of Jesus’ disciples

--the Bible (both Old and New Testaments) is the inspired Word of God, the unique and authoritative witness to Jesus Christ.

You do not need to be a member of the church to join in worship and fellowship activities and to participate in service projects.  Membership in a particular church is based on professing faith in Jesus Christ.  Members are expected to attend worship regularly, to participate in the activities of the church, and to give of their time, talents and treasure for the mission of the church.  Both members and friends of the church are entitled to the pastoral care of the church.  Only members are allowed to vote in church elections and hold church office.

Affirmation of Faith (APOSTLES Creed):

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried: he descended into hell, the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Invitation to the Lord's Supper:

In the Presbyterian Church, communion is open to all who claim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, regardless of denominational affiliation.  Parents, mindful of their vows to nurture their children in the faith, are encouraged to include their baptized children at the Lord's Table.  It is the practice of the congregation to partake of the bread when passed and to take the cup together.
